Meet The Founder

My name is Meg Comer, MS OTR/L. I received my Masters in Occupational Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. My love for occupational therapy has allowed for me to work with people from all walks of life, from as young as 2 months old to as old as 116. I have had the privilege of traveling the country to work with a variety of surf therapy organizations, from Dana Point, California, to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to Montauk, NY and of course right here in Spring Lake, NJ. Outside of the water, I have co-authored a scoping review on Surf Therapy, and I serve as a Team Leader for the International Surf Therapy Organization (The Surfing OT is a proud Global Contributor to The International Surf Therapy Organization). The culmination of all of these experiences along with my passions for surfing and occupational therapy, has led to the formation of The Surfing OT LLC!

The vision of The Surfing OT is to harness the gifts of nature to facilitate clients maximizing their functional gains in therapy sessions. Engaging in occupational therapy sessions in natural environments promotes intrinsic motivation to participate, which can encourage better outcomes. Settings that sessions can be held in include but are not limited to: the ocean, the beach, parks, playgrounds, backyards, and lakes, however the possibilities are endless!
